Hiwassee College is pleased to announce the 2012 Hiwassee College Scholarship Day. The scholarships which are described below will be awarded after on-campus interviews and auditions take place on the Hiwassee College campus on January 28, 2012.
Students who are entering Hiwassee College in August, 2012 are eligible for these scholarships. In order to be considered for these scholarships, candidates need to apply for admission, submit transcripts of all high school and post high school grades, submit results of the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and submit an application for the specific scholarships. Some of the scholarships require additional submissions of writing samples or portfolios which are described in the specific scholarship listings.
Kefauver Scholarship Program
The Kefauver Scholarships include full tuition, fees, room and meals. The minimum requirements for consideration are an ACT composite score of 27 and a high school GPA of 3.5. An essay on political life in America and an interview are also components of the eligibility criteria. Eligibility also requires that the Kefauver Scholars participate in the Honors Program of the college. To retain this scholarship the student must maintain a Hiwassee College GPA of 3.3.
Presidential Honors Scholars Program
Two scholarships will be awarded annually. One will include full tuition, room and meals. One will be valued at full tuition. Minimum requirements for consideration for the Presidential Honors Scholarship are an ACT composite of 26 and a high school GPA of 3.5. This scholarship is renewable. In order to retain the scholarship a 3.25 Hiwassee College GPA is required. Eligibility for this scholarship requires that the recipient participate in the college’s Honors Program.
Rymer Memorial Scholarship Program
The Rymer Memorial Scholarships are full tuition, need-based scholarships. Minimum requirements for consideration include a 2.5 high school GPA and two written recommendations from a high school guidance counselor, faculty member or employer. The scholarship is renewable with a 3.0 Hiwassee College GPA. Participation in the College’s Honors Program is required.
Anna McClure Scholarship Program
The Anna McClure Scholarship Program provides scholarships of $5,000.00 per year to students who have a high school GPA of 3.5 and an ACT composite score of 25. Scholarship recipients must maintain a Hiwassee College GPA of 3.2 to be considered for renewal.
Allison Scholars Program
Students pursuing a program leading to the ministry or other full-time church vocations are eligible to apply for the Allison Scholars Program. Awards vary up to full tuition. Minimum requirements for consideration are an ACT composite of 18 and a 2.5 high school GPA. To renew the Allison Scholarship the student maintains a minimum Hiwassee College GPA of 2.25.
Wilaldomar Academic Scholarships
Wilaldomar Academic Scholarships are awarded to students who score a minimum ACT composite of 20 and a high school GPA of 3.0 or more on college preparatory courses. Scholarship awards vary according to the student’s ACT and GPA. To renew the Wilaldomar the student must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Division/Departmental Scholarships
Scholarships are available from individual academic divisions and departments for students interested in particular academic programs offered within the division. Awards may vary from $500.00 to $1,000.00 annually. Eligible students will have a minimum ACT composite of 20 and a high school GPA of 3.0. These awards are renewable with a 2.75 Hiwassee College GPA.

Creative Writing Scholarships
Scholarships of $850.00 are given to students with exceptional talent in the areas of literary magazine work and computer expertise in desktop publishing. Students interested in this scholarship must submit a statement of creative writing experience as well as a sample of poetry or prose.
Music Scholarships
Awards of $500.00 - $5,000.00 are awarded to exceptional students in the areas of vocal and keyboard music. Students interested in a Music Scholarship must submit a statement of experience, which specifies honors or recognitions received in music. All Music Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of competitive auditions.
Literary Magazine Scholarship
An award of $1,000.00 is given to the student chosen to be the editor of the college literary magazine, The Odhrohir. Students interested in this scholarship must submit a sample of their original work with a literary publication and a resume noting relevant experience in producing a literary magazine.
