FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 7, 2010
MADISONVILLE, Tenn. Hiwassee College will greet new students and their parents during a second orientation day to be held Friday, July 16. The first orientation day was held by Hiwassee in June where more than fifty incoming freshmen attended and registered for fall classes. “We usually host two orientation days, one on Friday and the other on a Saturday, each year,” says Interim President Jerry Russell. “This year we may have to add a third session. This fall we hope to have a very strong class of quality students at Hiwassee.” The last day of regular registration for fall semester is Monday, August 23, and classes begin the following day. “It’s still not too late to enroll for fall,” states VP for Financial Aid and Admissions Ron Hemphill. “There is still space and financial aid and scholarship packages available, but you need to call us now.” During orientation, students take placement tests, secure housing, meet and speak with their advisors, and learn more about what to expect come fall at Hiwassee. Parents learn too. “Orientation is a great time for parents to meet faculty, administration and staff, and to answer any concerns they may have about their son’s or daughter’s upcoming experience here,” says Russell. “We know that, for many families, this is the first time their child has been away from home for any lengthy period of time. They have entrusted Hiwassee with their most cherished gifts. We take that responsibility very seriously.” Parents also learn about scholarships and financial aid packages Hiwassee has available. “Many Hiwassee students receive some form of financial assistance,” relates Hemphill. “We offer many different options. If you want to go to college, we can usually find a way.” For information and fall semester registration, contact the Hiwassee College Admissions Office at 423-420-2001 or visit online at www.hiwassee.edu .
