Facilities
The Hiwassee College Baseball complex along with Tom Black Field is one of the best in the area for small colleges. The baseball field house, also known as the “Tiger’s Den” is over 1500 square feet and houses the Tigers locker room, coach’s office, bathroom/shower facility and players lounge/study room. It is conveniently located along the 1st base dugout of Tom Black Field and connects into the home dugout. There is also a concession stand, a press box, and just over one hundred chair back seats located behind home plate.
The players’ lounge located in the field house is usually full of players. It is a great place for student-athletes to relax before or after practice while watching the big-screen T.V., playing video games, throwing darts, or playing cards. There are also two study tables set up in the players’ lounge where many baseball players will come to study for tests, write papers, or complete their study hall hours every week. The entire field-house is set up as a Wi-Fi hot spot which makes it more convenient to study or surf the net on your lap-top.
Tom Black Field
Tom Black Field is one of the first things that you will see as you enter the Hiwassee College Campus. Set in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains it is a beautiful place to play baseball. The playing surface is predominately Bermuda grass over seeded with Rye grass in the winter.
The dimensions of the field are 325 ft. down the left field line, 390 ft. to dead center field, and 295 ft. to right field with a 25 ft. extension on the right field wall.
The outfield wall is a beautiful maroon aluminum wall from one outfield corner to the other. The foul line fences are both chain link while the backstop is block with a 30 ft. net from the 1st base dugout to the 3rd base dugout.

The “Tiger’s Den”
There are 36 lockers located in the locker room portion of the “Tiger’s Den” each with enough space for all baseball equipment both needed and provided for the Tigers. Each locker also has a lockbox to accommodate personal items.
The coach’s office is also located in the same facility with plenty of room inside for individual meetings, team meetings, video review, and recruiting visits. It is located on the west side of the building and has windows to view the field. Access to the coach’s office is through the main hallway of the field house.
The bathroom and shower facility at the “Tiger’s Den” is located just off the main locker room area. Currently, the area is under construction so there is small bathroom facility with one toilet, one shower and one sink. The plans for the near future are to add three additional shower stalls, three additional toilets, and three sinks. Also located in the bathroom shower facility is a laundry room where practice and game uniforms are washed for the players on a daily basis in the commercial size washer and dryer.
