Shane Gardner
Associate Athletic Director/Head Baseball Coach
Coach Gardner is a former Hiwassee Tiger baseball player and student. After completing his playing career at the Univ. of Tennessee, he returned as a volunteer assistant at HC working with the outfielders and hitters.
This year Shane is returning to coach the Hiwassee Tigers baseball team, bringing his vast experiences, maturity, and organizational skills.
Shane has an extensive background in developing players from his days as the general manager and lead instructor at the Yard Baseball Academy in Knoxville. Shane has coached some of the area’s top talent while at the Yard through the Perfect Game tournament series.
Coach Gardner’s coaching resume includes a two year Student Assistant position here at Hiwassee College, one year working with Loudon High School’s baseball program (during that year the program made their only TSSAA State Tournament bid in school history), and coaching the College Prep team with the Yard.
During Coach Gardner’s tenure with the Yard Baseball Academy, players under his direction received scholarship offers from every division. Coach Gardner saw 10 players sign Division 1 baseball scholarships. Shane and his wife Carri have one child, a little boy named Wyatt.
“I am very excited about the future of our program. We have a lot of work to do, but I know we can build a quality program here. The baseball program has always been like a family and that’s what it will be again, Hiwassee is a special place and I encourage everyone to check it out.”
