Hiwassee College recognizes the efforts of individuals through the awarding of scholarships to eligible students who excel academically as well as those who excel in the performing arts and athletics.
To be considered for scholarship assistance, students must apply for admission, submit academic transcripts of all high school and post high school work attempted, submit scores from the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), and submit an application for the scholarship program. Individual scholarships may require additional recommendations or certifications by ministers, teachers or guidance counselors.
Institutional scholarship recipients must earn a minimum of twelve academic credits per semester with the minimum GPA specific for each scholarship to maintain eligibility for the scholarship in future terms. The student’s cumulative GPA will be checked at the end of the second and third semesters to determine eligibility.
Inquiries concerning the scholarship program of the college should be directed to the Office of Admission or the Office of Financial Aid.
KEFAUVER SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The Kefauver Scholarship includes full tuition, fees, room and meals. The minimum requirements for consideration are an ACT composite score of 27 and a high school GPA of 3.5. An essay on political life in America and an interview are also components of the eligibility criteria. Eligibility also requires that the Kefauver Scholar participate in the Honors Program of the college. To retain this scholarship the student must maintain a Hiwassee College GPA of 3.3.
PRESIDENTIAL HONORS SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Two scholarships will be awarded annually which include full tuition, room and meals. Minimum requirements for consideration for the Presidential Honors Scholarship are an ACT composite of 26 and a high school GPA of 3.5. This scholarship is renewable for a second year of study. In order to retain the scholarship a 3.25 Hiwassee College GPA is required. Eligibility for this scholarship requires that the recipient participate in the college’s Honors Program.
RYMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Rymer Memorial Scholarship is a full tuition, need-based scholarship. Minimum requirements for consideration include a 2.5 high school GPA and two written recommendations from a high school guidance counselor, faculty member or employer.
ANNA MCCLURE SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The Anna McClure Scholarship Program provides scholarships of $4,000.00 per year to students who have a high school GPA of 3.5 and an ACT composite score of 25. Scholarship recipients must maintain a Hiwassee College GPA of 3.2 to be considered for renewal. Participation in the college's Honors Program is required of Anna McClure Scholarship Recipients.
WILALDOMAR HONORS SCHOLARSHIPS
Annual awards of up to $3,000.00 per year are available to students with a minimum ACT composite score of 24 and a high school GPA (on college preparatory courses) of 3.25. The minimum GPA required to maintain the Wilaldomar is 3.2. Participation in the college’s Honors Program is required of Wilaldomar Honors Scholarship recipients.
WILALDOMAR ACDEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Wilaldomar Academic Scholarships are awarded to students who score a minimum ACT composite of 20 and a high school GPA of 3.0 or more on college preparatory courses. Scholarship awards vary according to the student’s ACT and GPA. To renew the Wilaldomar the student must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0.
ALLISON SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Students pursuing a program leading to the ministry or other full-time church vocations are eligible to apply for the Allison Scholars Program. Awards vary up to full tuition. Minimum requirements for consideration are an ACT composite of 18 and a 2.5 high school GPA. To renew the Allison Scholarship the student maintains a minimum Hiwassee College GPA of 2.25.
DIVISiON/DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are available from individual academic divisions and departments for students interested in particular academic programs offered within the division. Awards may vary from $500.00 to $1,000.00 annually. Eligible students will have a minimum ACT composite of 20 and a high school GPA of 3.0. These awards are renewable with a 2.75 Hiwassee College GPA.
CREATIVE WRITING SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships of $850.00 are given to students with exceptional talent in the areas of literary magazine work and computer expertise in desktop publishing. Students interested in this scholarship must submit a statement of creative writing experience as well an s sample of poetry or prose.
DRAMA SCHOLARSHIPS
Awards of $500.00 - $2,000.00 per year are available to students with outstanding abilities in the areas of acting, production or set design/maintenance. All awards are made through competitive auditions. Students interested in scholarships through the Drama Department must present a brief overview of their experience and responsibilities in drama. Additionally, applicants must present a paragraph of fifty words or less describing what the theatre means to them. Scholarships are renewable for a second year based on satisfactory performance and faculty recommendations.
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Awards of $500.00 - $2,000.00 are awarded to exceptional students in the areas of vocal and keyboard music. Students interested in a Music Scholarship must submit a statement of experience, which specifies honors or recognitions received in music. All Music Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of competitive auditions.
LITERARY MAGAZINE SCHOLARSHIP
An award of $900.00 is given to the student chosen to be the editor of the college literary magazine, The Odhrohir. Students interested in this scholarship must submit a sample of their original work with a literary publication and a resume noting relevant experience in producing a literary magazine.
