Hiwassee College Talent Search
Students Sweep Regional Competition
Hiwassee College Educational Talent Search students did a winning sweep of the competition in a regional event in Atlanta, GA on April 19. Eight middle school students from Monroe and Loudon County schools represented Tennessee after winning the state event in March and the local event in February.
Students competed in three categories. Those categories were: Written Exam, Spelling Test, and Super Quiz. Hiwassee College’s Talent Search students placed first in each of the categories earning them the Overall 1st Place Team Award. In addition to these awards individual trophies were given to the highest individual test scores. Kerry Brummitt from Philadelphia Elementary School made the Highest Individual Score on the Written Exam and Brandon Darr from Sweetwater Junior High School earned the 2nd Highest Individual Score on the Written Exam. It is hard to believe it has been almost 15
years since I graduated from Hiwassee
College. A lot has happened in my life since
then, but as I look back at the two years spent
at Hiwassee, I can’t help but remember them
as two of the best years of my life. I cherish
my friendships and memories made as well as the fabulous education
the wonderful people of Hiwassee College provided me.
I feel strongly that part of my responsibilities as an alumnus of
Hiwassee includes making a contribution to the Hiwassee College
Annual Fund. This unrestricted fund provides money to help students
through the work/study program. I personally am one of many
students who have benefitted from Hiwassee’s work/study program.
Without this financial help, I would not have been able to attend
Hiwassee College.
I know my gifts have a real impact at Hiwassee. My same size
contribution at a large institution would be a mere drop in the bucket.
At Hiwassee, it is a bucket! I hope everyone will give something,
whether it is $1000, $100, or even just $10. Together, we can make
a drastic difference in the lives of many students.
It is hard to say where my life might have taken me without the
educational opportunities Hiwassee provided. I do know I would
be lacking the many memories and friendships I hold so dearly. I
know you feel the same. Please take some time today and give
what you can.
