Institutional Effectiveness

The mission of the Office for Institutional Effectiveness is to support Hiwassee College’s commitment to educational and institutional excellence through continuous evaluation and improvement.

Our goals and outcomes include:

  • Expanding the college’s capacity through assessment to enhance continuous data-driven improvement and innovation
  • Providing information and data to support the college’s planning process of institutional and program decision, outcome assessment, and accreditation
  • Serve as the liaison for accreditation and communications for the college
  • Providing effective leadership for accreditation and accountability

Demographic and Assessment Information:

  • Enrollment (Fall 2016) – 286 students with over half of whom live in the College’s residence halls: Allison Hall for female students and Tom Black Hall for male students.

    • Academic Standing Breakdown

      • Freshmen – 48.3%

      • Sophomore – 18.5%

      • Junior – 16%

      • Senior – 17.2%

    • Gender Breakdown

      • Female – 54.5%

      • Male – 45.5%

    • Over 95% of students enrolled at the college were full-time.

  • Faculty (Fall 2017) – Hiwassee College has 18 full-time faculty, over half of which have obtained a terminal degree or currently pursuing one.

  • Student:Faculty Ratio (Fall 2016) – 17:1

  • Dental Hygiene Board Pass Rate for 2016-2017 is 100%

Summary of the results from the Student Satisfaction Survey (SSS) conducted in the spring semester of 2017. In total, there were 199 responses for this survey

  • 63% Female and 37% Male

  • 73% – Number of Students who reported that they receive institutional aid

  • 65% – Number of Students who reported that they received Federal Grants (Pell/SEOG)

  • 79.2% reported that they have visited/used the services provided by the Learning Center.

  • 81.2% reported that the tutoring they received was effective.

  • 92.9% reported that the computer facilities meets or exceeds the needs of the students.
  • 50% of students are employed either on or off campus.
