2018 PANEL MEMBER CANDIDATES

Hiwassee College Alumni are encouraged to vote for fellow alumni to serve on the Alumni Association Board of Governors.  The Association will elect five (5) panel members to serve three years.  Balloting will remain open until October 27 which is two weeks before Homecoming.

Melvin Michael (Mike) Tallent       Class of 1969

Mike, a resident of Tellico Plains, TN, is an active Alumnus of Hiwassee College. He is seeking his second term on the Board of Governors. After graduating from Hiwassee, Mike continued his education at TN Wesleyan College (now TN Wesleyan University) and received a BS in Social Science.  Then he continued at MidwesternStateUniversity in Wichita Falls, TX, and received a Masters in Public Administration. During Mike’s two years at Hiwassee, he was active in the drama club, college Democrats, and civic activities. Mike’s career was in public administration, which included city management, municipal consulting, assistant executive director and executive director for the University of Tennessee’s Municipal Technical Advisory Service and as assistant vice president for the University’s Institute for Public Service. Currently, Mike is retired but continues consulting or management work.  He is also active in the Monroe County Alumni Chapter and in his church. Continuing to serve on the Board of Governors is important to Mike because he would like to make an active difference for the Board of Governors and the college.  He believes that his individual and team work can be a strong link toward a positive college community.  

Robert (Bob) Quillen     Class of 1966

Bob, a resident of Kingsport, TN, has a wife and two beloved dogs, continues to work in Real Estate and plays golf when time allows. After completing two years at Hiwassee, he continued his education at MilliganCollege in Elizabethton, TN where he received a BS in Business Management. During Bob’s time at Hiwassee, he enjoyed his active participation in the Drama Club. In his career, he has always been drawn to working in some type of sales.  While in college, he worked weekends as a car salesman in Knoxville.  Next came time in Resort sales and property appraiser for a nationwide company.  Finally, he settled down in a premier real estate sales development company in Kingsport and became head of their sales.  Later he started his own real estate company which includes leasing and developing commercial properties, sales of land and residential properties, and auction services. Currently, Bob remains active in Real Estate and has received the designation of Realtor Emeritus from the National Association of Realtors, being a founding member of the Property Management Section of that organization and completing all Institute of Real Estate Management courses. Bob is seeking a membership on the Board of Governors because no matter where life has taken him, his years at Hiwassee have left an indelible imprint on his heart.  In return, he would like to give back and help this “grand ole institution”.  He firmly believes that his efforts can promote friends and funds for Hiwassee’s future. 

Michael Gaddis     Class of 1977

Michael, a resident of Blount County, TN, is active in his community helping many find a better way of life. Michael continued his education at TN Wesleyan College (now TN Wesleyan University) and received a BS degree in Communication Management. While at Hiwassee, Michael was active in choir. He will sing many praises of his years at Hiwassee as giving him a firm foundation for study, work ethics, and Christian living. Michael’s career path has taken him into sales and marketing.  Currently, he owns and manages a self storage business and develops real estate. To become a member of the Board of Governors is very important to him because Hiwassee opened doors for him that would otherwise have not been available.  He would like to give back by helping young people realize a better destiny involves God and good guidance.

Dr. Bryan Thomas Beason 2007

Bryan Beason is proud to be a part of the Hiwassee story. At Hiwassee, Bryan was actively involved in cross country, Phi Theta Kappa, and the science department. Graduating magna cum laude, Bryan knows the big part caring teachers played in his success at Hiwassee. He found a wonderful foundation to help him finish his educational career as a graduate of the University of Tennessee's Veterinary Science program. "I am grateful to the people who gave so much time and energy to make sure I was successful in the classroom and in life."

Stephanie Womac Ring     Class of 1992

Stephanie, a resident of Englewood, TN, has a family and works full time in finance. After graduating from Hiwassee, Stephanie continued her education at the University of Tennessee with a major in Vocal Performance. At Hiwassee, Stephanie was very active in Choral, Harmony, Shalom, and Student Government.  She is the author of the second verse of the Hiwassee College Alma Mater. Stephanie’s career path has been in finance since 1992 and became Executive Vice President of Operations in 2007. Currently, she is active in AthensFirstBaptistChurch where she is in choir, choral productions, teaches children’s classes.  She also is involved in youth and junior varsity baseball as manager and scorekeeper. Stephanie is seeking the honor of serving her Alma Mater with a seat on the Board of Governors.  She loved Hiwassee while attending and holds fond memories of those years.  She met many of her lifelong friends during that time; one especially, her husband.  If she could have the opportunity to serve and give back to the school that forever changed her life, she will gladly serve.
